MEDIA PRESS RELEASE: DATE (NFL – Social Justice Grant)
John Pointer, a former NFL pro football player, has applied and he just received a NFL Foundation, “Social Justice Grant”. John commented ,“that with there being so such turmoil and attention brought to the League and to its NFL Owners on whether Players will be punished if they do not salute during the playing of the National Anthem just as there are concerns about some NFL Players wanting to bring more attention to the issues of ‘social injustices’ of this nation, this newly created NFL social justice grant offers an opportunity for current and former NFL Players to identify their favorite non-profit organization that is truly making a difference in the community”. However, a Player must validate their true involvement with that particular organization, as well.
John’s selection is a non-profit organization named Build and Learn, Inc., which is located in John’s hometown, Columbia. Executive Director of Build and Learn, Quinton Jones states, “that the organization is a ‘Job Readiness Program’ that is offered to military veterans, former individuals who were incarcerated, and residents from underserved communities in the middle Tennessee area”. Build and Learn prepares clients for jobs in home repair and light construction through study courses and with hands – on experience.
So, this Wednesday (8/8/2018), there will be a luncheon along with a presentation starting at 11:30 (am) at O’Charleys located (on HWY 96, 1202 Murfreesboro rd., Franklin, TN 37064).
In attendance hopefully will be city and county officials along with business leaders from the Middle Tennessee area. John is a graduate and former linebacker at Vanderbilt University in 1980. He currently serves on the Tennessee Advisory Committee of the US Civil Rights Commission.
*This is the first NFL Grant of its kind allocated in Middle Tennessee. It may potentially be the first administered in the entire state!
